Biography

  

 

     Ferdinand Magellan was born in Sabrosa near Villa Real in Portugal.  Ferdinand Magellan died on April 27, 1521 in Cebu, Philippines. Ferdinand Magellan sailed for Spain in 1519 with five ships and about 260 men.. His motivation was to find a faster route to the Spice Islands. Ferdinand explored the Spice Islands, South Pacific, and southeast Asia.  Ferdinand's Magellan was known as the first man to circumnavigate the earth.  Ferdinand Magellan and his crew treated the Natives that they encountered badly.  It was heard that they stole things from each other such as food and weapons.  On Ferdinand Magellan's exploration many people from his crew died because of diseases, sickness, and in battle. Ferdinand Magellan was friends with one of the natives kings.

 

Birth- Ferdinand Magellan was born in Spring in the 1486 in Sabrosa, near Villa Real in Portugal. Ferdinand Magellan's real name is Fernao de Magalhaes (this is his Portuguese name that his parents gave to him when he was born). His Fathers name was Rui de Magalheas and his mothers name was Alda de Mesquita.

 

Death- Ferdinand Magellan died on April 27, 1521 in Battle.

  

Nation he sailed for- Ferdinand Magellan sailed for Spain in 1519 and was a portuguese explorer.

 

Motivies- Ferdinand Magellan's motivation was to find a shorter route to the Spice Islands and to come back to Spain. Magellan also wanted to find a new route to get new trading goods and other supplies they needed, and he wanted proof that the world was not flat,and that it was round.

  

Places explored- Ferdinand Magelan explored in the Spice Islands, South Pacific, and Southeast Asia.

 

Legacy- Ferdinand Magellan's legacy is the first man to to circumnavigate the world/Earth.

In 1505 Ferdinand Magellan was sent to India

 In 1506 Megellan sailed to East Indies.

     In 1505 Ferdinand Magellan was sent to India and in 1506 Magellan journeyed to the East Indies,taking part in expeditions to the spice islands. in 1510 Magellan was secretly sailing the ship to the east without permission, he lost his command and was forced to return to Portugal.On September 20, 1519 Magellan and 237 crew members set sail on five ships from Sanlucar de Barrameda in the hopes of finding a shortcut to the Spice Islands.

Summary

 

      My explorer Ferdinand Magellan should belong in the explorer hall of fame because he was the first person to circumnavigate the world.  Their treatment to the native Americans was very bad.  They would steal thing from one another for example they stole weapons and food that they have found.  He went through the Atlantic Ocean, on the coast of South America, then through the Pacific Ocean, then through the  Phillipphines. when Ferdinand Magellan and his crew where pasing the Pacifc Ocean which Ferdinand Magellan named one of his ships sank and the men on the boat died the other four boats continued on in the journey, During the journey they suffered badly of hunger. Only 18 of the 260 men suvived. Ferdinand Magellan named the pacic the oacific because pacific in Spanish means peaceful.

Reflection

 

     I think that space exploration was expensive, dangurous, and much more because you can die by going to space It coasts a lot of money to go up in space, you need to have enough money to buy a rocket or to build one, you need to have money to buy a telescope.  When Ferdinand Magellan was on his ship exploriong it was just as dangurous because if there is a really big rain storm while you are on the ship the waves get a lot stonger because of the wind. the technology the used where rockets, and telescopes. to lounch them selves into space, the technology they used to explore the world was boats,maps, and composes.
